Kelly Wright

I started CrossFit in November 2011, and like probably everyone else who does CrossFit, it has been a life-changing experience! On my first night of On-Ramp we did a half Cindy and I got 6 rounds exactly. That was probably the worst 10 minutes of my life, but I was so excited at what I had done at the end of it! I hurt so bad I could barely lift my arms to wash my hair that night! But it also was a feeling of accomplishment and I knew I was hooked! The last workout of On-Ramp was a full Cindy to see how far we'd come in our first month. The coaches wanted us to be able to at least double our half Cindy. I did 13 rounds plus 3 pullups and was stoked :) The second month was called Fundamentals, and this is when we got to start PRing the lifts. At this point, I would say I drank the Kool Aid. I joined the group classes in January 2 012, and then my boyfriend Alex and I had to leave Hawaii at the end of the month :( The only thing making us want to stay in Hawaii was our "Ohana" (family) at CrossFit Ewa Beach (CFEB). I knew I would miss Hawaii, but what I was going to miss the most was the people from CFEB. Working out there made me realize CrossFit was more than just a workout, it was also about building amazing relationships with amazing people.

So Alex and I left Hawaii in February and moved to his hometown of Discovery Bay in Northern California. I went home for a couple of weeks in the month of February and was so nervous about continuing CrossFit there because I was going to have to go by myself. So I chose a place close to my parents' house, but I was so disappointed after my first night that I didn't go back. The owner was a total jerk, and told me everything I had learned was wrong. I was totally up for hearing him out, but he was so condescending that I knew I wouldn't enjoy going there. I didn't know there was another box close to me, so I ended up working out at the YMCA with my parents and got a bunch of crazy looks from the people there :) The one good thing about working out there though, was that I impressed my Dad :) I PRed my dead lift at 200 pounds with him watching me! After my visit home, I joined Delta CrossFit in NorCal where I found more amazing coaches and amazing people!

In October 2012 I moved to Huntington Beach for a job and joined Red Wolf CrossFit. Again, I found a "family" :) I went home to Nashville to visit my family in February, and was working out at CrossFit Hermitage while I was there. It was very hard to leave the coaches and amazing people at CFH, but I know that when I go back to visit, I will always have a home there! So I've been back in HB and back at Red Wolf since the end of April, and I know that I am "home" :) May 1st was my year and a half anniversary of doing CrossFit, and I can't wait to see what the next year and a half has in store!! And I want to say thank you to my fiance, Alex Wisner, for getting me to "drink the Kool Aid" :)

Competition History:

  • My first competition was The Winter Shakedown Team Competition at Axiom CrossFit in Rancho Cucamonga. It was an amazing first comp and I had an awesome team!
  • I just completed my second competition on April 27th at the Surf City Civil War with an amazing partner!
  • I'm looking forward to competing in the future!!!

Goals:

My goals are to continue to get stronger and prove to myself that I can do things I never thought possible!! I want to continue to compete in team competitions. And I still want to get certified so that I can coach others, and help change their lives the way mine has been changed. Red Wolf has done a couple of charity workouts, so I hope to continue to be involved in those as well.
